What to Expect from a Real Estate Photography Session

If you’ve never worked with a professional real estate photographer before — or if you’re an agent onboarding a seller who has questions — here’s exactly what to expect from start to finish.
Before the shoot
Most professional real estate photographers will confirm the appointment 24–48 hours in advance and provide a preparation checklist for the seller. The most important prep steps are decluttering every surface, turning on all lights, and ensuring outdoor spaces are clean and ready.
If drone photography or twilight photography is part of the package, the photographer will confirm the weather forecast and may provide a secondary scheduling option in case conditions aren’t suitable.
Day of the shoot — what the photographer does
A professional photographer arrives on time with professional equipment: a full-frame DSLR or mirrorless camera, wide-angle lenses, a tripod, and often portable lighting for darker spaces.
The photographer will walk through the property first to assess the layout and identify any issues, begin with exterior shots while natural light conditions are optimal, systematically move through interior spaces starting with the main living areas, and use bracketed exposures (HDR) for each shot — taking 3–7 exposures at different settings that will be blended in post-production.
The photographer will not deep-clean or reorganize rooms, move major furniture, or remove items that are clearly part of the property. All of that is the seller’s responsibility before the shoot.
How long does it take?
For a standard single-family home under 3,000 square feet, plan on 60–90 minutes for photography only. Larger homes, homes with significant outdoor spaces, or packages that include drone photography may run 2 hours or more.
Twilight photography, if included, happens at a separate time — either the same evening or a separate visit, depending on scheduling.
What happens after the shoot
Images go into post-production the same day. Professional HDR photography requires significant editing: blending multiple exposures, sky replacement on exterior shots, color correction and white balance adjustment, and removal of minor imperfections.
Next-business-day delivery is standard at The Listing Bees. You’ll receive a download link to your full gallery — typically 25–50 edited images for a standard home, plus your complimentary 2D floor plan. Images are delivered in MLS-ready resolution and format.
What’s included in the delivery
A standard photography package from The Listing Bees includes a full edited image gallery (25–50 photos depending on property size), sky replacement on all exterior images, professional color correction on all images, a free 2D floor plan that is ARMLS-compatible, and next-business-day delivery via download link.
Add-ons — drone photography, twilight, videography, virtual staging, 3D tours — are delivered on the same or following business day depending on scope.
After you download
Images are immediately MLS-ready. Widescreen versions work across Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com, and ARMLS. If you need any specific file formats, crops, or revisions — a photo that needs retouching, for example — most photographers handle reasonable revision requests quickly at no charge.
For first-time sellers especially, the photo shoot can feel like a lot is happening at once. Knowing what to expect ahead of time makes the experience smoother, and a little preparation the day before makes an enormous difference in the quality of the final result.
